This older Pirelli Cinturato P7 has a softer compound than the newer Pirelli Cinturato P7 P7C2. More importantly, the old P7 has a softer sidewall construction than the newer P7C2 for more comfort! However, what really spoils both the original P7 and the newer P7C2 that I purchased only a month earlier - is that both the original P7 and the newer P7C2's in size 225/55 R17 are only available with a load and speed rating of 97Y - which is horrible in Australia - because in Australia, we can only drive to 100 kph maximum, yet the Y speed rating for 300 kph has a stiffer construction for a poor ride. I already replaced the new model P7C2 with the original model P7, and now very soon, I will be forced to use something like the Bridgestone Turanza T005A's which in 225/55 R17 has soft compound with an UQTG treadwear index of 260 just like the original Cinturato P7's, but more importantly, the Bridgestone Turanza T005a has a load and speed rating in 225/55 R17 of only 97V designed for only 240 kph, hence the sidewall construction will be softer for a smoother ride.

The Pirelli Cinturato P7 has an UTQG tirewear index of 260, which means that it is relatively soft, and that is excellent for an upmarket tire. A tirewear index of 200 will wear twice as fast as an index of 100. The relatively soft compound provides very good grip in dry and wet, as well as soft and quiet ride. However, it was only available in a 97Y load & speed rating which means it is rated to 300 kph, which is useless in Australia. The high load & speed rating of 97Y ie 300 kph means the tire has a very rigid belt construction for a rather bumpy ride! This tire should be available with a 94V ie 240 kph, or 94W ie 270 kph speed rating at most - for a softer carcass belt construction for a smoother ride.

For some reason (the specific size, presumably), these are way more expensive than alternate profiles. However, Supercheap were offering the same tyre considerably cheaper than other suppliers, hence my purchase - which went very well, thank you.

What's the Pros And Cons?

Pirelli Cinturato P7 UTQG 700 A A

Compare and Rate Your Tyre on its Treadwear, Traction, and Temperature

tyre-size

700 A A

•  700 Treadwear:
This grade represents the tyre's expected life/duration, ranging between 100 to 1000. Usually, the higher the treadwear rating, the longer the tyre life.

•  A Traction:
This grade represents the tyre's capability to stop on wet asphalt and pavement. Ratings are expressed in letter form, with AA being the highest and C as the lowest.

•  A Temperature:
This grade represents the tyre's heat resistance ability, with A as the highest and C as the lowest. Heat build-up causes the rubber to break down faster, which can cause blowouts. The higher the temperature rating, the longer the tyre life and the higher the speed rating.

The Pirelli Cinturato P7 is an Asymmetrical Tyre

tyre-size

Asymmetrical tread patterns combine different tread types to deliver maximum wet and dry road grip via its inner and middle tread, while outside, larger and rigid tread blocks dominate the design to improve cornering.

To avoid fitting mistakes, asymmetrical tyres are labelled "outside" and "inside only" so you know if they will face your vehicle or out.

The Pirelli Cinturato P7 is a Silent Tyre

tyre-size

Also known as low–noise or noise–reducing tyres, this tyre is designed to produce less noise than traditional tyres while driving.

Noise–canceling technologies include:

•  Advanced tread designs:
Optimizes air flow in the tyre grooves for a quiet ride.

•  Specialized rubber tread compounds:
Absorbs road vibrations for less noise.

•  Made with sound absorbing materials:
Special polyurethane foam layers inside the tyre reduce noise and absorb vibrations.

You can head to the nearest petrol station or vehicle servicing station without having to stop at the side of the road to change a punctured tyre.

Pirelli Tyres has developed the RUN FLAT™ technology which allows you to drive up to 80 km after a puncture at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

Each Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat™ tyre features a self-supporting reinforced sidewall that prevents the tyre from collapsing and slipping off the rim.
